Hospital Nursing Service Moving Towards Nursing excellence
Today, nursing services at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is at threshold of achieving Nursing Excellence. The nurse has to nourish, protect, illness, avoid injury and educate the community. She must keep pace with the doctor and other paramedical staffs and thus needs better education and best training in technical skill. Service to patient to remains her primary function and the reason for the existence of nursing profession. The Nursing Service is crucial for the reputation of the hospital .The skills and efficiency in the Nursing staff is vital and touchy.
She is loyal friend to the doctor, affectionate mother- substitute to the patient, coordinator of all ward activities of personnel. She has to exert all her faculties in managing sensitive ICU/ICCU and OT areas. She has to organize safety measures to prevent accidents to patients. She has to be tactful, independent, tolerant & sensitive while dealing with patients and their relatives doctors, paramedical and the class four category employees.
The Nursing Staff in the hospital play a crucial role in patient care. It provides useful supports under the control of Nursing Superintendent.
DUTIES OF NURSING STAFF
- Receive a patient from Admission to the Ward.
- Checks all Admission papers and creates a patient record file.
- Inform the unit doctor of the patient having arrived.
- Implements written orders of the doctor on the file.
- Prepares investigation through Lab track
- Draws blood for investigation
- Starts I/V line if required0
- Order to Pharmacy through Med track.
- Direct ward boys for various duties.
- Give medication to patient
- Monitor vitals[Pulse/BP/ Resp], fluid input/output chart.
- Console/ counsel the patient.
- Send diet order to kitchen as per Doctor advise.
- Collects Results of Lab, X-Rays etc through HIS.
- Update information.
- Recently introduced ECG in the ward by the staff nurse.
- In OT she organize smooth conduct of surgical procedures and assists the surgeon during procedures.
- Maintain records of patient, consent of for procedure, Recod for billing visit records of doctors.
- Any other requirement of the patient.

TRAINING
One-Day Induction by HR within one week of joining
INDUCTION
Two Full Day training to newly appointed staff to give knowledge about the working knowledge of the hospital and about the management & Followed by15 days evening session on Language Development, Speaking verbalization, Listening, Observing and Confidence Building .It concludes with a group presentation on the last day in the Presence of a team of evaluators.

Future Activities
In the absence of a formal CNE [Continued Nursing Education] the hospital plans to start an in –house CN Credits. In future
A non-Punite, competitive approach has been started in the wards where in all nursing practice is monitor by staff’ in rotation. This has instilled confidence in correction of incorrect habits by colleagues, without communication among nursing colleagues . At the end of three months, the wards shall be evaluated and one running trophy to keep for next 6 months.
A Nursing Audit Committee has been formed with the following as it members:
