The department of Medical Oncology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is a centre of excellence, research, development, education & case in the treatment of cancer. The department was started in 1997. Based in New Delhi, the department has a successful record of innovation in nursing care and pioneering new treatment.

The department provides extensive in-patient, day-care and outpatient facilities for all types of cancers, offering a full range of specialist services from critical care to rehabilitation.

Academic Activities

The department is actively involved in academics in the form of regular CMEs, seminars and lectures.
The department organizes National/International level conferences at regular intervals. It is also actively involved in teaching programme for DNB students in various disciplines.

The department is engaged actively in clinical research activities. There are several ongoing drug trials from National & International companies on various malignancies.

  • Study Protocol: An observational study to determine the side effect profile of Aromasin® for hormone dependent breast cancer in post- menopausal women

  • Protocol: A Noncomparative, Multicentre, Open-Label Study to Evaluate the Safety, Tolerability and Efficacy of Caspofungin Acetate as Empirical Therapy in Indian Adults with Persistent Fever and Neutropaenia

  • Protocol: A Multicentric, Open Label, Phase III Clinical Trial to Evaluate The Safety and Efficacy of Interleukin- 2 (Zenotech) in Patients With Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma.

  • Study Protocol: A prospective open- label study of Anastrozole in post- menopausal women with hormone sensitive advanced breast cancer.

  • Study Protocol: IPL - IBT- P03 - 03 - An Evaluation of Safety and Efficacy of recombinant Erythropoietin (EPO) (IPL- P03) in patients with Cancer-related Anaemia. A Prospective, Non-comparative, Open Label, Multicentre Study.

  • Protocol: A Phase II study of Lapatinib for Brain Metastases in subjects with ErbB2- Positive Breast Cancer Following Trastuzumab - based Systemic Therapy and Cranial Radiotherapy.

  • Protocol: A Prospective, Multicentric, Open label, Randomised Phase II study to assess Efficacy and Safety of daily Intravenous administration of Amphomul (Amphotericin B Emulsion) in cancer subjects with febrile Neutropaenia.

  • Protocol: CSMS995A2403 - An observational, multicentre study on the impact of therapeutic decision making for medicinal naïve patients with newly diagnosed neuroendocrine GEP tumours intent to receive Sandostatin LAR treatment under conditions of normal clinical practice.

  • Protocol: A double-blind, randomised, placebo controlled, parallel group study to investigate the efficacy, safety, tolerability, pharmacodynamic of SB- 497115-GR, a thrombopoietin receptor agonist, administered at 30, 50 and 75 mg as oral tablets once daily for 6 weeks to a adult male and female subjects with refractory, chronic immune thrombocytopaenic purpura.

Educational & Public Awareness Activities

The department is also involved in public awareness programmed on cancer detection. Several free cancer detection camp have been organised in the city as well as other cities like Dehradun, Ganganagar, Meerut, Panipat, Farukhabad, etc.
