On 2 August 2006 "Health Awareness Project" was organised with full enthusiasm & spirit by third year students of School of Nursing, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. The main aim of the project was to bring awareness about anemia in adolescent girls. For this purpose survey was done in 100 Quarter Area near Karol Bagh to estimate the Hb level among the girls. Blood samples were taken and data was collected in the form of questionnaire. After collection of data, analysis was done. The survey was a great success as we were able to screen 93 girls among 115 families. The result of Hb estimation were:

  • Normal - 44 (Above 12 gm%)

  • Mild Anaemia - 39 (Hb 10-11.9 gm%)

  • Moderate Anaemia - 09 (Hb - 7-9.9 gm%)

  • Severe Anaemia - 01 (Hb less than 7 gm%)

The affected girls with anaemia were screened & follow up was done with repeat testing. They were provided with iron & folic acid tablets & informed them to repeat the Hb estimation after 1 month after taking regular iron rich diet & drug therapy.

On the day of "Health Project" i.e. 2 August 2006, health education was given in the form of health talks, exhibition display and dance drama on the topics i.e. Anaemia Immunisation, Family Planning, Environmental Sanitation free distribution of iron and folic acid tablets & ORS packets was done.
