The department combines the cutting edge of modern technology with the age-old clinical acumen and compassion. This has made it into one of the renowned centers in the country.

Achievements: -

The department deserves special mention for the following facilities available.

A. Cochlear Implant Programme: For the last 3 years severely deaf children and adults have been taken up for cochlear implantation and rehabilitation using the latest surgical techniques and utilizing the Nucleus multi channel implants. The results have been excellent, since very rigid and meticulous pre-implant work-up followed by auditory verbal therapy ensures excellent result in term of development of speech and language.  

B. Sinus Endoscopy and beyond: Apart from a very successful nasal and sinus endoscopy programme, patients having diseases in the pituitary, naso-pharynx and orbit are being routinely taken up for endoscopic procedures.

C. Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology: This is a sub-specialty by itself and extensive work ranging from early detection of deafness, management of sub-glottic and tracheal stenosis, removal of foreign bodies from aero-digestive tract is being done by the department.

The department has high quality diagnostic facilities including:

  • Complete audiometric set-up
  • Electronystagmography testing
  • Brain Stem Evoked Response Audiometry (B.S.E.R.A.) and Oto-Aciostic Emission (OAE)
  • Facial nerve monitoring
  • Speech therapy facilities

Academic Activities:

The department is recognized for DNB training and gets 2 candidates every year.

An exhaustive teaching schedule is followed with the active participation of the faculty.

The trainee is made to master the basics to the state of art techniques in the field of otorhinolaryngology.

The department conducts the following courses on a regular basis:

  • Microsurgery of the Ear-Workshop
  • This course is being held for the last 14 years and it continues to grow in popularity.
  • Workshop on Cochlear Implant - The department conducts yearly workshop on cochlear implantation where live surgery demonstration is followed by discussion on the same.
  • Sinus Endoscopy - Workshop
  • Hands on workshop in Vertigo
  • From time to time CME courses are conducted.

Social Activities:

The department is aware of its social commitments and conducts 2-3 free diagnostic camps in rural areas.

New facilities:

Department of ENT has acquired a sophisticated CO2 Laser System exclusive for ENT work. It is a boon for the following conditions:-

  1. Vascular Anomaly – Routine surgery produces severe blood loss but laser is blood less.
  2. Stenosis, Polyps, Nodules of Voice Box (Larynx)
  3. Nasal tumor s, Polyps, Tonsillectomy.
  4. Early Cancerous Lesions of Voice Cord.

Sinus Navigation System: - First time in North India this sophisticated system for Exclusive Sinus Surgery. It is similar to fly by wire technology of aeroplanes and enables surgeons to be precise in operating difficult cases and revision Sinus Surgery.
